kind in the world, a study of vision threatening corneal ulcers was
conducted and recently published in an article in the Cornea Journal.

In order to examine the trends in the development of contact lens
related  corneal ulcers, a review was conducted of the medical records
of all patients diagnosed with corneal ulcers over a four year period.

It was noted that of the 507 corneal  ulcers identified in the
prospective record review, 223 were contact lens related, with this
proportion increasing over time. The most common type of infection was
note to be one of the most serious types of vision threatening types:
Pseudomonas. Soft contact lens wear was the most common type of lenses
associated with ulcers.

Although daily wear soft contact,  are safer than extended wear lens,
there are still concerns. The authors concluded that daily disposable
soft contact lenses have reduced, but not eliminated the risk of
infection.

When considering your options of vision correction, remember that both
contact lens and LASIK  are safe, but entail  some element of risk, be
it rare.
